The Search & Actualisation of Their Soul’s Purpose: Perhaps the clearest sign of an old soul is the undeniable sense that they came here to be of deep service, even if they’re not yet clear how. Whilst they may feel the understandable pull to attend to usual aspects of life such as their relationships or raising children, they can’t dismiss the call of their soul to something that lies beyond that, however difficult, disruptive or unwelcome that feels.
Challenges Conforming & Complying: Old souls often experience great challenges conforming to the status quo, feeling like they can’t or are just unwilling to relinquish their freedom to fit in with the controlling conditioning, demands, and values of the mainstream modern culture.
Overwhelming Sensitivity & Empathy: Old souls often possess a heightened sensitivity to the emotions and energies around them, sometimes due to forms of neurodivergence, making them attuned to subtle nuances in their environment, which can feel overwhelming, even unbearable at times.
Struggling with this Crazy Modern World: Old souls often struggle with the incessant intensity of the shallow, fast-paced, productivity-focused, consumption-orientated, technology-driven way of living in today’s world, yearning for the deeper, slower-paced, nature-based, soulful way of life that humans evolved with.
Shamanic Sickness: Some old souls may experience an intense openness to spiritual energies. This heightened awareness may manifest in extreme physical, mental or emotional challenges, serving as a sign of the spirits initiating and calling them. This can be terrifying when it’s not understood and there’s a lack of guidance to move through it.
Feeling Lonely & Misunderstood: Due to their unique perspectives and depth of insight, old souls experience difficulties in forming connections with the people around them who are unable to understand their profound worldview, resulting in a sense of isolation and a lack of belonging to the like-minded, like-souled community they know they’re here for.
A Lack of Role Models & Mentors: Culturally, there are very few models of the mature roles and ancient archetypes that old souls have come here to live out, and a dire lack of mentors, elders, and teachers who can guide them in the deep alchemical work of actualising union with their unique soul.

The Be Mythical Path

We’ll explain what The Be Mythical Path is but before we tell you more, we want to first acknowledge you for listening to your curiosity and coming here. We believe that ‘nudge’ from curiosity is one way our hearts and souls speak, however in today’s world it’s common not to hear or heed those intuitive nudges.

Most of us who have been raised in this culture have been conditioned and domesticated into numbing our hearts and crushing our souls, leading us to not recognise, ignore and even deny our deep longings and innate guidance. Having lost our inner compass, we’ve innocently learned and been trained to focus externally, on doing what’s required to fit in, to be materially successful, and tick all the boxes society requires of us.

We were conditioned into adopting a set of beliefs and behaviours to get the love we crave and to create the security to protect us from further trauma.

We’ve been moulded into an entirely different shape to that which we came here to be.

But YOU didn’t accept that…

…because you’re not exactly average (after all, you’re an old soul - and somewhere deep down, you’ve always known you’re here for something beyond what’s considered average), so you’ve kept on searching…

And that search may well have taken you along at least of one of
three seemingly separate paths…

The path of Ascension to Spirit:

This path is taken by those with the intention to free themselves from the pain and suffering of their circumstances, and it can be described as the search for enlightenment or awakening. It includes forms such as non-duality, yogic and meditative traditions, and the Three Principles. This path leads to an experience of Oneness which provides a reduction in the identification with the self, a quietening of the mind and ultimately, liberation from the pain and suffering of illusory separation.

The path of Maturation to Sovereignty:

This path is taken to mature into true adulthood, in our natural human setting, it would include rites of passage, role modelling from others embodying mature archetypes, guidance from elders, and nature immersion. In the modern world, we attempt to do this much-needed work via forms such as mindset mastery, life coaching and NLP - sometimes described as ‘Growing up’ (versus the ‘Waking up’ of Ascension) - and we can gain real benefits but they can’t compare to the true transformation created through the time-honoured ways humans have evolved with. This path leads to being the true Sovereign creator of your life, liberated from being a victim of circumstances.

The path of Descension to Soul:

This path is typically felt as a call to discover true meaning and self-gnosis, to drop down into the body and the earth, to lose oneself in the wild, dreams, poetry, and myth, and to journey into deep wounds and old stories. In a natural setting, we would be gifted our birthright - to be deeply embodied and fully connected to nature, whereas in a modern setting this path includes forms such as depth psychology, shadow work, embodiment, rewilding and nature-based practices - the latter being essential. This path leads to grounding, healing, a deep connection with the spirits of the wild, and to true union with soul and uncovering your unique purpose.

All three paths - though undeniably powerful in their own right - if taken in isolation, rarely if ever, provide the depth of meaning, fulfillment, and connection that we’re here for.

When all three paths - Spirit, Sovereignty and Soul - are united and walked as one path, we are liberated to be our full wild, divine and unique expression in the world.

All three paths are therefore necessary for you to liberate your wildness, discover your calling & be your unique medicine so that you can live your soul’s myth.

This is a rite of passage and way of being that once upon a time was our birthright.

And given the world we’re living in, it’s no wonder a clear and complete pathway has not been seen before. A pathway which brings support from experienced guides, ceremonies of initiation, the modelling and wisdom from elders or others who are walking the path. It’s the rarest of rare in our modern culture to find such a pathway.

We focus on teachings, rituals, ceremonies, and initiations that activate, illuminate, heal, and unite... So that you can live your soul’s myth.

The Path takes us on the journey of Sacred Union with 7 Mythical Elements

Union with…

Self: Alchemising old stories and wounds through shadow work and soul gnosis to become pure Gold, to actualise your true essence.
The Wild: Deconditioning from our domesticated culture through reconnection to the natural world, such as finding a sit spot, taking wild wanders, and vision quests.
The Body: Connecting you intimately with your body through practices such as natural movement, resensitising and trauma release, to hear its needs and understand its wisdom and guidance.
Your Kin: A primal sense of deep connection with kindred spirits through the illumination and actualisation of your sacred role within your family, creating true community and sitting together in circle with others on this journey.
Another: Reverence, devotion and embodiment of the Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine for sensuality, relationship harmony and union.
Magic: Wielding your Soul’s True Will in accordance with Divine Love and universal laws, through conscious creation via vision, focus, archetype, ritual and ceremony to create your heart’s deepest longings.
Spirit: Communion with the Divine, supported and guided by your allies and guides through practices of opening your heart as a channel for Spirit.

How we navigate the Path

What guides us on this journey of Sacred Union are 3 tenets:

Soul-led
Heart-centred
Sovereign

…working together as a North Star.

These tenets honour the three pathways of Ascension, Maturation, and Descension (as described above) and their symbolic articulation is inspired by the ancient wisdom of the World Tree.

The World Tree

In many shamanic traditions, as well as numerous world mythologies and esoteric traditions, there’s a cosmology of three worlds which is often symbolised by a tree known as the World Tree.

The World Tree connects the three worlds:

The Lower World – the realm of the unconscious, the dark, lost soul parts, nature helper spirits – and is symbolised by the tree’s roots
The Middle World – the everyday human world – and is symbolised by the tree’s trunk
The Upper World – the realm of Spirit, super consciousness, the light, Gods and Goddesses, spirit teachers and spirit guides – and is symbolised by the tree’s branches.

Of course, this is only a simplified summary of diverse (and diverging) traditions and beliefs and doesn’t do justice to the sacred nature of them, which we honour deeply.

The Be Mythical Tree

The World Tree can be seen as a symbol of the first principles of ‘how the universe works’ and so it informs the tenets of The Be Mythical Path and therefore our own tree:

The branches of the tree represent the Ascent to Spirit, into becoming a Heart-centred channel for Divine Love.
The trunk of the tree represents Maturation to True Adulthood, into becoming Sovereign, autonomous and responsible for the power of Spirit and Soul flowing through us.
The roots of the tree represents the Descent to Soul, into becoming the Soul-led unique gift that we are.

All 3 tenets, Soul-led, Heart-centred and Sovereign create the North Star which guides us towards Sacred Union to live out the truth of our unique soul’s myth.

YOUR GUIDES ON THE PATH

Jonathan Wilkinson and Lian Brook-Tyler are the co-founders and teachers of Be Mythical.

Jonathan and Lian met at a retreat in 2014, and soon realised that they were doing similar things separately and were meant to come together to create what was then called Born Happy, then evolved into Primal Happiness, then most recently Waking The Wild, and finally Be Mythical… and the rest is the stuff of myth and legend!

Jonathan is a sage of our time, someone who was born to ask the deep questions and then was thrust into a life of great suffering and challenge in order to answer them.
For much of his life, he’s journeyed with debilitating health conditions that modern medicine had no diagnosis or cure for. This led Jonathan to dedicate over two decades to a mythical quest of discovering wisdom from throughout the ages, uncovering the disconnection from that ancient wisdom which is behind almost all of the issues in today’s culture, including the profoundly negative impact that has on the human animal’s ability to thrive in this modern world.
His capacity for deeply seeing others, especially Magical Ones, allows him to illuminate what someone’s soul has come here to be, what is required for them to become it, and then to guide them into the actualisation of their deepest gifts with great reverence and sacredness.
