What you’ll learn from this episode:
- Adam defines leadership in a specific way which is a way of being in the face of whatever one is up to in the moment – from being a CEO, to cleaning the house to parenting. It’s a way of being rather than a specific job role. Traits of leadership include being at cause vs at the effect, being impactable: allowing others to impact us and to be present to our own impact, and being responsible for our own needs and getting them met.
- The stages of leadership are: 1. Apologising for our impact, including not even being willing to create an impact, playing safe to avoid the breakdown. Stage 2 is moving into blurting, radical honesty, speaking our truth, no longer holding ourselves back, no matter the impact. Stage 3 is being responsible for our impact.
- Lastly, as much as knowing about these stages is helpful and empowering, firstly we don’t have to move through them, it’s choice we can make if we want the most meaningful, juicy expanded life possible. Secondly, there’s no hopping over or bypassing the messy Stage 2. If we choose to walk the path of expansion, the risk of making messes and the fear that brings is an unavoidable aspect of this path. If you’re choosing that path, then I deeply honour you for your courage.
