We’re Jonathan Wilkinson and Lian Brook-Tyler, and we created Primal Happiness to help people, just like you, thrive in this crazy, modern world.
Jonathan suffered from debilitating health conditions for most of his life, and Lian struggled with chronic pain and anxiety, caused by a traumatic event in her 20s. Also, despite outwardly appearing successful, we were feeling overwhelmed with all the demands of modern life.
We both spent decades on a long and desperate journey, filled with frustration and failure, but it led us to discover what actually works (and just as importantly, what doesn’t work) to create a truly meaningful and happy life.
So what we uncovered were the fundamentals required to reclaim our primal state of happiness and our innate ability to thrive.
SO WHAT EXACTLY IS PRIMAL HAPPINESS?
It’s Primal meaning intrinsic, fundamental and natural, and Happiness meaning the state of being at ease, connected and in flow. So we’re saying that just like everything else in nature, happiness is our primal state.
But the thing is… the world today is a crazy place. We’re living in unnatural times, which has resulted in most of us becoming disconnected from our natural state.
JUST SOME OF THE THINGS THAT DISCONNECT US, IS HOW WE’RE…
- Caged up in cubicles, butts glued to chairs all day
- Conditioned to conform to the status quo
- Cut off from a deep connection with others
- Bombarded with news, telling us the world is a bad place
- Labouring to buy more shiny things to fill the gaping holes the ads tell us we have
- Immersed in a toxic soup of chemicals
- Filled with relentless, noisy thoughts of fears and insecurities
It’s a totally alien way of life for us humans!
We’re basically the same human design that’s been around for thousands of years but the world around us has changed dramatically.
No wonder we end up dragging ourselves around… feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and unhappy.
DEEP DOWN, WE ALL KNOW THIS ISN’T RIGHT
We feel there must be more to life than joining this apocalypse of zombies, so in a desperate attempt to escape all this suffering, we find ourselves ceaselessly searching for the answer in…
- Books and podcasts on self-help and personal growth
- Productivity habits, mindset hacks, meditation apps and gratitude diaries
- Strategies that other people (supposedly) used to get success and happiness
- Super-foods and performance-enhancing supplements
- And literally whatever Google prescribes as a solution
Consequently (and ironically) this only serves to add to the constant internal chatter about the never-ending action plan and the mental techniques that we ‘should’ be doing, if we want success and happiness. And all the while… the very thing we’re chasing, drifts ever further away.
So that’s why life feels like a damn struggle. We just haven’t evolved to live like this.
